Old Rides
Welcome to our project page for the Old Rides energy storage scheme, a proposed new 1GW energy storage project located south east of Eastchurch, Isle of Sheppey.
Consultation on our proposals will open on 3rd April 2025, at which time all the project information will be made available here. We will also host a public event on 3rd April 2025 where the project team will be on hand to answer your questions and receive your feedback.
The consultation period will close on 18th April, following which we will review the feedback, refine our plans where possible and appropriate, and submit a planning application to Swale Borough Council.

This map shows our proposed site boundary (red line). In selecting the site, we have ensured there is enough suitable land for development while also allowing part of the site to be used for landscaping and ecological enhancements.
Proposal

Your feedback is invaluable and, where possible and appropriate, we will look to incorporate your comments into our evolving plans. This information will assist in informing the final proposal for our planning application, which will be submitted to Swale Borough Council in late spring.
Our consultation process will run from 3rd April to 18th April 2025. We will publish further details about our proposals, including how you can provide feedback, at the start of the consultation.
We are holding an information event for the local community, where members of the team will be available to answer questions and discuss the proposals in more detail. Please come along, chat with the team and let us know what you think.

Once we have reviewed all the feedback, we will finalise our plans and submit a full planning application to Swale Borough Council. As part of the application, we will submit a document that summarises the comments received from the local community.
Swale Borough Council will then conduct its own statutory consultation before determining the application.
Document library
You can find out more by reading the documents we have published as part of our public consultation.
We have submitted a ‘Screening Request’ to Swale Borough Council, to agree our proposed approach to assessing environmental effects and share the results of our early assessments. This will ensure we can identify and consider all potential significant effects on the surrounding environment.
